Dr. Marie Neag

Dr. Marie Neag, 92 of Canfield Ohio, formerly of Youngstown, Ohio and Pinkham Notch Jackson, New Hampshire passed away on Monday, June 6, 2016. She was born in Youngstown, daughter of John Neag and Jennie Zavoian. She attended Youngstown Schools, and Primary and Girls school in Bistritz, Romania. She earned a B.A at Youngstown State University, a M.S. in Education at Westminster College in PA, and did her Doctoral Studies at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland; and earned her PH.D at the University of Akron. She also earned a degree in post doctoral studies at the University of Napoca, Romania.
Her dissertation -"The Historical Development of the Romanian Education System with a comparison of the Organizational structure and curricula during the pre-socialist (1800-1948) and post-socialist (1948-1974) eras", is on file with the Library of Congress (1974).
Her presentations at conferences and symposia includes Humboldt State University, California; University of California, Long Beach; City College of New York, Brooklyn; University of Wisconsin, Madison; and Kent State University, Ohio. Her articles on Romanian History were published in the Journal of American Romanian Academy of Arts and Sciences in California. The section on Romania in 'World Education Encyclopedia', Vol. II, Major Countries, Ed. George Thomas Karian; Facts on File Publications, 1988.
Her educational experiences includes Warren City Schools, Warren, Ohio, Interned as Superintendent, was assistant principal, guidance counselor, coordinator of Spanish language program, chair English dept.-Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, Ohio. Administrator upward bound program, Youngstown State University, academic advisor, Institution in Educational, Child, adolescent and adult psychology.
She was preceded in death by her only relative, her sister, Dr. Martha Neag on September 12, 1999. There are no survivors.
She leaves her close friend Dr. Charles E. Wilkins, and Kathleen Grace.
Services will be held on Friday, June 10th at 10:30am at Holy Trinity Romanian Orthodox Church- 626 Wick Ave in Youngstown. Friends may call a half hour before.
