YOUNGSTOWN - Helen Mamonis There will be funeral services Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2010 at 11 a.m. at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church for Helen Mamonis, 83, who entered into eternal rest Friday, Sept. 10, 2010 at Hospice House, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born July 26, 1927 in Warren, a daughter of the late James and Mary (Kondoleon) Cominos, who came here from Greece. She was a graduate of South High School and was a waitress starting in her father's restaurant and worked in many area restaurants. She then worked for Easco Aluminum, retiring after 18 years of service. Helen was a member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, was president of St. Nicholas Seniors for nine years, a member of St. John's Greek Orthodox Church seniors, president of E.A.D. and the founder of Our Dinner Club. She will be sadly missed by her husband, Anthony James Mamonis, Sr., whom she married Sept. 15, 1946, three sons, Anthony (Debbie) Mamonis, Jr. of Poland, Peter (Marlene) Mamonis, Sr. of Warren and James (Amy) Mamonis, Sr. of Berlin Center; two daughters, Marie (John) Macchio of Canfield and Teddi (Rick) Noday of Austintown; a brother, Emanuel (Gerri) Cominos of Youngstown; a sister, Frances (George) Panagopoulos of Canfield; and a sister-in-law, Myra Mamonis of Canfield; 13 grandchildren, Michelle (Patrick) Gaia, Eric Fowler, Melissa (Tim) Styranec, Joyell (Joe) Weimer, Eric Zatchok, Peter, Eddie, James, Jr., Joseph, Alexis, Linley, Anthony, III and Dominic Mamonis; three great-grandsons, Timothy and John Styranec and Patrick Gaia, III. Helen was a wife, mother, grandmother, a great-grandmother and a great friend to all to the hilt. Family and friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, at the Vaschak-Kirila Funeral Home, 3100 Canfield Rd., where there will be a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at St. Nicholas Greek Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests all donations be made in our mother's honor to Hospice of the Valley or to St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church of Youngstown.
