Our beloved son, brother, grandson, cousin and friend Michael Andrew Thomas of Canfield, Ohio, passed away Thursday September 7, 2017. During Michael’s 23 years of living life to the fullest, he touched many lives.
He was born January 29, 1994, the son of John and Janice (Repasky) Thomas. Michael graduated from Canfield High School in 2012 where he was voted “most outgoing” and “most school spirit”. He was a four-year varsity goal keeper on the Canfield Soccer team where he received numerous awards for his talents and performance. He was recruited by the Columbus Crew Academy team where he played goalie for four years.
Michael was a mentor and coach for the boys and girls soccer teams at his high school alma mater and rec soccer for the surrounding area. He was an avid Columbus Crew, OSU, and Cleveland sports fan. He enjoyed spending time outdoors camping, boating, fishing, and disc golfing.
He attended Bowling Green State University on a soccer scholarship and later attended YSU. He was preparing to enlist in the US Air Force this fall.
He was a member of St. Christine’s Church.
Michael leaves behind his loving parents, Janice and John Thomas, brothers John, and Nicholas (Katherine) Thomas, his grandmother Dorothy Repasky, his aunts and uncles, Cathy and John Cera, Marty and Gail Repasky, Betty Ann and John Lautner, and Mary Jones, cousins Craig (Elizabeth) Repasky, Capri Cera, Jennifer Jones, Joni Kohut, Kathy and Tom Lautner and his best buddy, Kaiser. He also leaves many additional cousins and friends who he held close to his heart.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents Martin Repasky and Alma and John Thomas.
Michael was always willing to lend a helping hand to his friends and family. He will be fondly remembered for his kindness to others, positive outlook, glowing smile, warm generous bear hugs, and infectious laughter.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to fund a scholarship benefiting Canfield High School soccer players that will be established in his memory.
Friends may call Tuesday, September 12th from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Vaschak-Kirila Funeral Home, Inc., 3100 Canfield Road, Youngstown.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, September 13th at 9:30 a.m. at the Vaschak-Kirila Funeral Home and 10:00 a.m. at St. Christine’s Church in Youngstown.
