Welcome to the memorial page for

Nicholas Cipollone

September 17, 1922 ~ April 22, 2016 (age 93) 93 Years Old

Nicholas Cipollone, 93, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at The Assumption Village, Friday afternoon, April 22, 2016, following a long and fulfilling life.
Nicholas was born September 17, 1922, in Youngstown, a son of the late Lorenzo and Rose (Spencer) Cipollone. He grew up in the Smokey Hollow neighborhood. He graduated from Rayen High School in 1940. After high school he was in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) for 6 months and then worked at General Fireproofing for 2 years. He then proudly served in the Army as a medic during WWII in the Eight Armored Division in Europe, where he received numerous medals including 3 Bronze Stars.
After WWII, he graduated from Youngstown College with a B.S. in Arts. He also later received a Masters in Education from Westminster College and a Masters in Arts with a Spanish major from West Virginia University.
He always said, “People may not know me when I enter a place, but they will not forget me when I leave” because he made sure that he socialized with everyone that he met. He had a great sense of humor and an enormous love of languages, music, and dancing. His love of languages led to his career as a high school teacher of Spanish, Italian, and English for 31 years from 1951 through 1982. He began his teaching career in Leavittsburg, OH (2 years), followed by Hartford, OH (4 years), followed by Rayen High School (17 years) and ending at Chaney High School (8 years).
He was preceded in death, on January 17, 1998, by his wife, Beverly (Mittacos), whom he married June 11, 1949. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Margo, and a sister-in-law, Joanne Weld.
He leaves to cherish his memory a daughter, Sherry (Maruf) Awad of Canfield, three grandsons, Mark, Samer, and Tarik Awad, two sisters, Mary Ann Fees of North Lima and Dolores Stark of NY, 3 nephews, Jeff Fees, Rick Fees, and Wayne Stark, two sister-in-laws, Audrey Darden and Emily O’Dell, and a special friend, Thomasina DeMain.
The family would like to thank the staff at The Assumption Village, where he was a resident for the past 3 ½ years, for their kind care.
Family and friends may call from 4 to 7pm, Tuesday, April 26, and one hour prior to the funeral service at Vaschak-Kirila Funeral Home, 3100 Canfield Rd., Youngstown. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, April 27, at 11am at the funeral home
