Youngstown, Ohio    Stephen J Farkas, 84

A mass of Christian burial will be held Friday, April 24th at 1:00pm at St. Christine Church with Stephen's cousin, Father Carl Kish officiating. Stephen passed away early Tuesday afternoon at age 84.
Stephen was born May 24, 1930 in Youngstown "Lansingville" and was the son of Stephen and Helen Kish Farkas.
He attended St. Matthias School, where he served as an altar boy and went on to Woodrow Wilson High School, graduating in 1949.
Stephen was drafted and joined the Navy in 1951 and served for four years during the Korean War aboard the USS Ashland LSD #1. Stephen had a career at Commercial Shearing/Intertec for 37 years as an electrician, retiring in April 1992.
He was a Member and past Trustee of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #3298. He was also a member of The Saxon Club.
He played on the undefeated 194 Woodrow Wilson Redmen Football team and was inducted into the Woodrow Wilson High School Athletics Hall of Fame for football in 1985. Stephen ran a hundred yard touchdown kickoff return against Struthers in 1947. Stephen was also inducted into the Baseball Old Timers Honor Roll in 1998 and most recently was inducted into the Woodrow Wilson Hall of Fame in 2014.
An avid golfer, Stephen was active in the Woodrow Wilson Sports Golf outing for many years as well as the St. Christine Golf League where he was a parishioner.
Stephen leaves behind his high school sweetheart, Eleanor Babik whom he married January 5, 1952, a daughter Lori (Sam) Papa of Canfield and Son Steven (Nancy) Farkas of Middlefield, Ohio, granddaughters Ashley and Alexis Bleggi and grandson Spencer Farkas and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by parents, Stephen and Helen (Kish) Farkas, brothers William and Edward and sister AgnesTraficant, Nephews Sam and James and niece JoAnnTraficant.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, April 23rd from 5-8pm and Friday, April 24th from 12:00 to 12:30pm at the Vaschak-Kirila Funeral Home, Inc in Youngstown. The Funeral will take place at 1:00pm at St. Christine Church on Friday, April 24th.

Entombment will take place at Calvary Cemetery.
