Veronica M. Powers passed away peacefully on Jan. 9, with her family and friend close by.
She was a lifelong area resident, who throughout the years cared for her parents with love and compassion and provided a welcome place for her nieces and nephews to come when they were growing up.
Her work career spanned 66 years beginning at 13 at a theater on Mahoning Avenue and included jobs at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Sheet and Tube, Dr. Holonko’s office, Ron Joy and Sateri Homes.
Veronica was a member of Holy Name Church-Our Lady of Sorrows and had a special devotion to the sacred Heart of Jesus.
Veronica loved the ocean, which was often the focus of her oil paintings. She also enjoyed bowling, golfing, skiing, including a trip to Austria and word puzzles.
The memory of Veronica’s sparkling eyes, quick wit, independent spirit and kind heart will be cherished by her sister, Christina Hutira; many nieces and nephews; several great and great-great nieces and nephews; friends; and special friend Sam, the Pomeranian.
Her parents; two brothers, John and Steve; and three sisters, Mary Felt, Ann Gaus, and Helen Kello; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; a nephew; and her beloved dog, Foxy, all preceded her in death.
A special thank you to Dr. Christopher Economus who treated her over many years and brightened her days. Additional thanks to Diane and the staff at Briarfield Manor who assisted her through numerous recoveries and her friends and companions at First Light Homecare, Delia, Gina, Janet, Halley, Doris, Gail and Ruth.
Friends and family may call from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 13, at the Vaschak-Kirila Funeral Home, Inc. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
