Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 28, 2018 at 10:00 am at the Historic St. John's Lutheran Church, 1429 Mahoning Ave., Youngstown, for Andrew Gavalier, Jr., 88, who passed away on Thursday, December 20, 2018. Andrew was born September 24, 1930, in Youngstown, a son of Andrew Gavalier Sr. and Susan Kovachik Gavalier. John was a 1949 graduate of Chaney High School and was a member of the Historic St. John's Lutheran Church and the John Hus Athelic Club. He worked for Youngstown Sheet and Tube and Polaris Tech, retiring in 1977. He was a U.S. Army Korean War Veteran, serving with the 45th Infantry Division, earning the Infantry Combat Badge. Surviving are one son, Robert (Lori) Gavalier of Austintown; two daughters, Susan (Alan) Berkenyi, of Austintown and June Warmoth of Atlanta, Georgia; seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son David Gavalier; a grandson, Joey Warmoth; two brothers, John and Milan Gavalier; and a sister Mildred Vekasy.
Friends will be received on Thursday, December 27th from 4:00 to 6:00pm at the Vaschak-Kirila Funeral Home,Youngstown, and again on Friday, December 28th from 9:30 to 10:00 am at the Historic St. John's Lutheran Church.
