Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 13, 2019 at 10:00am at St. Christine Church for Anthony M. "Tony" Chismar, Sr. 91, who passed away peacefully after a short illness, at Hospice House on May 9, 2019. Tony was born June 3, 1927 in Youngstown and raised in Smokey Hollow, a son of William A. Chismar and Mary Maurer Chismar. He attended St. Cyril & Methodius School and Rayen High School until drafted into the Army in 1945. He served in the 2nd Division 9th Infantry in Seattle Washington. He worked at the A&P Grocery Stores part time before being drafted and then full time upon his return in management for 30 plus years. He then worked at Rhiel Supply, retiring early to enjoy family and friends.
Tony was known as "Mr. Chiz" to his daughter and sons numerous friends. He was a member of St. Christine Church, where he was an usher at the 4:00 Saturday Masses, and a former member of St. Dominic Church. He was also a member of St. George's Croatian Lodge #66 and past President of Retail Clerks #298. He was a bowler for over 60 years in the St. Dominic league and other leagues with his brothers, and he liked to polka. He leaves to cherish his memory a daughter Barbara (Charles "Butch") Lias, and four sons, William (Linda) Chismar, James (MaryEllen) Chismar, Robert Chismar, and Anthony (Judy) Chismar, Jr., all of Boardman; and five brothers, William (Mariann) Chismar of Austintown, Joseph Chismar of Poland, Michael Chismar of Youngstown, Jack (Betty) Chismar of Boardman, and Ed Chismar of Poland; a brother in law, Br. Louis Petruska of The Abbey of the Genesee, Piffard, NY; five grandchildren, Michael and Mark Lias, Jessica and James Chismar and Lexi Chismar; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends too numerous to mention. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister and brother in law, Dorothy and Andrew Stolar; sister, Mary Pauline Kral; sisters in law, Nancy Chismar and Janie Chismar; and nephews, Edward Chismar and Edward Delbrugge; nieces, Nancy and Tammy Kral; his former wife and mother of his children, Barbara Petruska Chismar. Family and friends will be received on Sunday, May 12 from 2:00 to 5:00pm at the Vaschak-Kirila Funeral Home, 3100 Canfield Rd., Youngstown and again on Monday May 13, 2019 at 9:30am at the funeral home prior to the funeral service at St. Christine Church.
