Mary I. Demetri (Pappas) was born in Denora, Pennsylvania October 25, 1933. She was the daughter of Anthony and Phoebe Pappas. Mary graduated from East High School in Youngstown, Ohio in 1951. She was a member of the National Honor Society with a specialty in shorthand and stenography. Mary was noted for her beautiful soprano voice. She attended Dana School of Music.   She was asked to sing at many occasions including Greek Conventions.  She was a member of the St. Nicholas Church choir from 13 years old and choir director for over 50 years. She as also Philoptochos president.  Mary was famous for her Karidopeta (walnut cake).  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and aunt. She was also a great cook.  She leaves her husband of 59 years, Gregory,  her 4 children, Rev. Father Anthony Demetri and his wife Presbytera Eleni, George, wife Kathy, Connie (Vito) Pincione, and son Tom.  She also leaves 3 grandchildren; Greg, Athena and Sophia. Also, a brother Dr. Nicholas Pappas and wife Dorothea.  She leaves a nephew George (Stacy) Dickos and niece Francene (Jim) Tucker and a number of great nieces and nephews.  Her life was devoted to her husband, children and grandchildren.  Mary will always be remembered for her warm smile, loving heart, and a desire to always put others needs before hers.

Also, we would like to thank Ohio Living Hospice for all of their support.  Contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made to St. Nicholas Church. Calling hours begin at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 13th at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 220 North Walnut Street, Youngstown, Ohio with funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Luncheon (Makaria) to follow in church hall.
