Mary T Golec

Private funeral services were held on Thursday, May 9, 2019 for Mary T. Golec, 79, who passed away on May 6, 2019. A daughter of Mijo Golubic and Cecilija Novak Golubic, Mary was born on July 1, 1939 in Sv. Petar, Croatia. She came to Youngstown from Croatia in 1960. She belonged to Holy Apostle Sts. Peter and Paul Croatian Catholic Church, and was a 50+ year member of the Croatian Fraternal Union and a former member of Od Srca Tamburitzans. She worked as a cook and caterer at the Croatian Home on Vestal Rd. for over thirty years, retiring in 2012. Mary was a kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother (Baka), and sister. While Croatian cooking and baking was her specialty, she also loved her garden and cats, but above all she cherished spending time with her close family. Her warm, beautiful smile will be missed. Surviving are her loving husband, Paul Golec, whom she married November 12, 1960; her daughter, Lillian (Fred) Yasnowski of Lordstown; her treasure, grandson Paul; and a sister, Nada Bada of Austintown. She was preceded in death by her parents, and four brothers Ivan, Stjepan, Franjo and Slavko Golubic.
