ALBERT L. MAKARA
1948 – 2026
Albert L. Makara, 78, of Boardman, Ohio, passed away on July 17, 2026, at Cleveland Clinic Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio.
Born on February 26, 1948, in Youngstown, Ohio, Albert was the son of Aloysius Makara and Elizabeth Susor Makara. He grew up in Youngstown and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1966.
Albert dedicated his career to the telecommunications industry, working for Western Electric and later Alltel. He retired in 2010 after many years of loyalty and dedicated service.
On September 8th, 1973, Albert married the love of his life, Patricia Ann McCready, in Youngstown, Ohio. Together they shared 52 wonderful years of marriage, building a life centered on family, faith, and friendship.
Albert was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, the Youngstown Football Officials Association, the Ohio High School Athletic Association, and the Youngstown Metro Umpire Association. Throughout his years of service as a football official and umpire, he received numerous honors and awards in recognition of his dedication and commitment to athletics. In his free time, Albert enjoyed bowling in several leagues, officiating football games, and building model airplanes.
Albert will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Patricia Makara of Boardman; his daughter, Tara Castillo (Gregory) of Garfield Heights; his son, Jason Makara (Rachel) of Minerva; his sister, Theodora Makara of Columbus; and his brother, Raymond Makara (Patricia) of Canfield. He was a proud grandfather to Christopher Makara (Julia), Brooke Makara, Gabriella Castillo, Abrianna Makara, Isabella Castillo, and Zane Makara, and a step-grandfather to Lyza and Gianna.
He is also survived by his nephews, Michael Makara (Hsiang-Ting) and David Makara (Laura); his great-nephews, Owen and Ryan Makara; and many beloved cousins, friends, and extended family members.
Albert was preceded in death by his parents, Aloysius and Elizabeth Makara.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, July 31, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Dominic Church, 77 Lucius Avenue, Youngstown, Ohio 44507.
Albert will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his commitment to his community, and the friendships he cultivated throughout his life. His kindness, integrity, and steadfast presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
