Dorothy Ann Rodi

Private services and a Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Christine Church at 11:00am on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, for Dorothy Ann Rodi, 100, who passed away July 26, 2024 at the Hospice House in Poland.  God wrapped His arms around Dorothy and swept her up to heaven after only letting her rest at Hospice for a day and a half before her long-awaited journey with Him into eternity and what she prayed for daily her entire life.  Dorothy was comforted with love and surrounded by the Lord, her daughter and all of Dorothy’s angels that watched over her for more than a century, which even Dorothy admitted, was probably not an easy task at times.

Dorothy was born November 17, 1923 a daughter of the late John J. and Kathleen (Baytos) Sirock.  She was a graduate of Wilson High School and Penn Ohio College where she received an Associate Degree in Communications.  She was a lifelong area resident and worked for 20 years as a telephone operator at Western Reserve.  She loved the water, music, reading, baking and art.  Dorothy was so blessed.  She could speak three languages, was and excellent speller and in command of the English language, clever witted, had a remarkable singing voice, good sense of humor, and was strong willed up through her final days.  Even with all the blessings God bestowed on her, at times Dorothy was directionally challenged.  She could not find her way from point A to B without a few attempts.  However, she would get to her destination eventually and thank goodness it did not happen that often.

Dorothy was a charter member of St. Christine Church, a member of Sacred Heart Church and was a member of the Altar and Rosary and Holy Name Societies.

Her husband Robert S passed away on February 24, 1999.

Dorothy leaves to cherish her memory a daughter, Kathleen Lynn Rodi of Canfield with whom she made her home and who was her caregiver over the many years.  Out of the area and somewhere in this beautiful country, she leaves a son she loved very much, Robert J. (Suellen) Rodi and three now all grown adult grandchildren, Carolyn, Christine and Steven.  Dorothy prayed for her son and his family’s safety, health and happiness over the years.  Even though he never knew, she prayed she could tell him in person once again how much she loved him.

In addition to her parents, she was proceeded in death by her husband.

Dorothy’s daughter Kathleen expresses her profound gratitude to the entire staff of Hospice of the Valley for the care, kindness and patience provided to Dorothy over the last seven months of her beautiful life.  In lieu of flowers, her daughter requests memorial contributions be made in memory of Dorothy to Hospice House, 9803 Sharrott Road, Poland OH, 44514.

In honor of Dorothy’s wishes, there were no calling hours.

Arrangements are being handled by Vaschak-Kirila Funeral Home in Youngstown, Ohio.
