GREGORY SPEERO

1950 - 2026

Mr. Speero peacefully passed away on August 22, 2026.  Gregory was born December 3, 1950, right after the big Thanksgiving snow.  On March 25, 1951, Gregory was adopted by two of the most loving and giving people you ever wanted to meet, Gregory J and Susan H. Speero.

Mr. Speero had a very happy childhood and only wanted for a brother.  That want was fulfilled on July 19, 1959 when a plane arrived from an orphanage in Turin, Italy with his adopted brother Paul aboard.  Gregory leaves his wife, Carole, whom he married October 22, 1988.  He leaves two step-daughters, Mellissa and Katrina Ensor, a step-grandson, Adam Black and his step-granddaughter, his little peek-a-boo Emily Ensor.  Gregory also leaves his brother Paul and a foster sister Joann Nicola of Struthers, Brother-in-Law, Larry Quinn (Patricia) of Campbell and many friends and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Preceding Gregory in death were his adoptive parents, Gregory and Susan Speero and his foster sister Patricia Quinn.

Mr. Speero worked many places in his life starting out at the family restaurant.  He worked at General Extrusions, Weiner King, York Steak House, and Denny’s.  He then bought and ran his own sub shop in downtown Youngstown, The Yellow Sub Sandwich Shop.  After that George worked for MTM Snack Foods, Oak Hill Cemetery, and finally Shepard of the Valley until he became disabled 2010.  He was also a Junior Achievement Advisor for fifteen years.

Gregory had twelve years of Catholic Education at St. Cyril & Methodius and Cardinal Mooney High School graduating in 1968. He also received a degree from YSU.  Gregory is a member of St. Dominic’s church.  He was a member of Cy-Me Men’s Club, Altar Rosary Guild, Infant of Jesus of Prague and of The Former Saints Cyril and Methodius Church Seniors (O.L.O.S.) in Youngstown.

Calling Hours will be on Thursday, August 27, 2026 from 4pm to 7pm at Vaschak-Kirila Funeral Home in Cornersburg.  Please meet at St. Dominic’s Church Friday, August 28, 2026, 10 am for Gregory’s funeral mass.  He will be interred at St. John’s Cemetery in Lowellville, OH.
