YOUNGSTOWN
JoAnn K. Riebe, 81, formerly of Sunnybrook Drive in Youngstown, passed away peacefully at Austinwoods Nursing Home, on Sunday, October 27, 2024.
JoAnn was born on May 7, 1943, in Youngstown, Ohio, to the late Nicolas Zikovich and Mary (DiMuzio) Zikovich and her step-dad, John Kubinski. She was a graduate of Chaney High School and married the love of her life George C. Riebe, Jr., on May 21, 1964. They were married for 59 years. She graduated from Austintown Beauty Academy in 1977 and owned and operated JoAnn’s Beauty Salon for over 30 years. She also worked as a kitchen supervisor at Highway Tabernacle for 12 years where she cooked for the seniors and other church events. Everyone just loved her cooking, especially her spaghetti sauce, kolachi and homemade pizza!
Those who knew JoAnn, knew her love for the Lord and her passion for reading the bible. She was a devoted member of Highway Tabernacle for nearly 40 years where she taught Sunday school for 30 years and enjoyed every minute of it. She enjoyed her passions, including cooking, baking, crafts, gardening, humming to her favorite gospel music, and doting on her grandchildren. We can still hear her and George laughing while watching Everybody Loves Raymond and The Big Bang Theory!
She is preceded in death by her husband, parents and sisters Barbara Jean Thompson and Nicholina Zikovich. It is appropriate to mention her Aunt Neeka (Mildred) DePietro, whom she considered her second mother. She loved spending time with her in Florida.
She will be sadly missed by all that knew and loved her, including her four children, Nicholina Riebe (Brett Woodcock) of Hollywood, Fla., Diana (John) Burns of Canfield, David (Erin) Riebe of Charleston, WV and Richard (Andrea) Riebe of Boardman, and nephew Robert (Lori) Zikovich of Sharpsville, PA Grandchildren, Michael, Amanda, Romann, Kelly, Aaron, Jr., and Nicholas Riebe; and great-granddaughter, Maya Scott.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Vaschak-Kirila Funeral Home.
To honor JoAnn’s memory and celebrated her remarkable life, visitation will be held 10:00 to 11 am Friday, November 1, 2024, at Highway Tabernacle located at 3000 S. Racoon Road, Austintown, Ohio followed by a funeral service at 11 am. She will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to the Autism Society of the Mahoning Valley in JoAnn’s memory.
