Services will be held on Saturday, September 8 at 10 AM at Holy Trinity Romanian Orthodox Church for John Campean who passed away on Saturday, September 1, with his wife and loving family by his side. John was born July 11, 1929 in Campbell, Ohio the first of twins of John Campean and Asineta Maniu. He graduated from Campbell Memorial High School in 1947. He enlisted in the Air Force, served in the Korean War and was stationed in Casablanca, Africa. After returning home, he worked for Electric Equipment Company while attending classes at Youngstown College. After graduating he worked at Chrysler Corporation in Twinsburg, Ohio as a foreman retiring after 25 years. John was not one to sit around, and loving cars, he completely restored a 1946 Willys Army Jeep which he drove in parades. He spent much of his retirement transporting vehicles for several area car dealerships. John loved to travel with his wife Millie and visited all 50 states. They took several cruises and visited many European countries including Romania and Slovakia where their ancestors originated. John was an active member of Holy Trinity Romanian Orthodox Church in Youngstown, where he served on the church council for many years. He was a member of the American Legion and Romanian American Veterans. He always looked forward to weekly lunches with his long time friends. On June 20, 1959 he married Mildred Charnoki, they had four children John (Cindy) Campean of Canton MI, Mary Beth Campean of Rocky River OH, Jeannie (Tim) Hilk of Boardman OH and Thomas (Cassandra) Campean of North Lima OH, and five grand children Samantha (Alex) Hart of MI, Jeffrey (Nichole) Hilk of MI, and Jessica Hilk, Maria and Andrea Campean of OH. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, his children and grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents, twin sister Sylvia Reese and brother Peter Campean. Family and friends may pay their respects on Friday, September 7 from 4-7 PM at Vaschak-Kirila Funeral Home Inc. or at the church on Saturday morning from 9:30-10 AM.
