Marina Petrakos Obituary

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at 10:30am at St John the Forerunner Greek Orthodox Church for Marina  Petrakos, 85, who passed away on April 29, 2019. Marina  was born April 14, 1934  in Polylophos, Greece, a daughter of Zois Papadopoulos and  Panayiota Lilis. She came from Greece in 1955 and lived with her Aunt Calypso and Uncle James  Pappas, who was the founder of Jay's Famous Hot Dogs, and she worked there. After her husband acquired the business from James (Jay), she was a homemaker, but she was always very supportive of the business throughout the years.  Marina was a member of the St. John the Forerunner Greek Orthodox Church and the Philoptochos Society. She was also a member of St. Katherines's Greek Orthodox Church in Naples, Florida, where they spent their winters.  Surviving are a son, Dr. Frank (Tammy Lopez) Petrakos of Youngstown; a daughter, Calypso (John)  Bletsos of Midlothian, VA;  a brother, Dionyios Papadopoulos and a sister, Demetra Baratsa, both of Ioannina, Greece; and two grandchildren Vassili Bletsos and Marina Bletsos.  She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Sam "Sarantos" Petrakos, whom she married December 11, 1960.  Friends will be received  at the Vaschak-Kirila Funeral Home in Youngstown on Friday, May 3, 2019, from 5:00 to 7:00pm, with a Trisagion service at 6:00pm, and again on Saturday at the church from 10:00 to 10:30am,  immediately preceding the service. The family wishes to thank the numerous, wonderful caretakers that our mother had over the last three and a half years, especially Kellie, Kimmie, Shiann, Tonya, Robin, Tracey and Stacy, who were with her the last few months. Family also wishes to thank everyone at Mercy Health Boardman and the Hospice House for their wonderful care.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Sam and Marina Petrakos Scholarship at  St. John the Forerunner Greek Orthodox Church or the Hospice of the Valley, Hospice House.
