Patrick Charles Armstrong, known affectionately as Charlie, passed away on August 3, 2024, at the age of 77 in Youngstown, Ohio. Born on St. Patrick’s Day in 1947 in Youngstown at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Pat lived a life marked by warmth, charisma, and a deep love for his family and friends.
Pat graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1965 and attended Youngstown State University. His commitment to service was evident through his association with the National Guard for five years, where his dedication and camaraderie were deeply valued.
Professionally, Pat worked for a decade at Youngstown Sheet & Tube. After, Pat served as a police officer with the Youngstown Police Department from 1974 to 1985. His commitment to public safety and community well-being left a lasting impact.
An avid NASCAR fan, Pat relished the thrill of the race and attended several events across the country. His passion for classic cars was evident in his meticulous care for his 1952 Chevy Bel-air and 1965 Pontiac Catalina, often showcasing them at car shows. Additionally, he was a fervent Ohio State Buckeyes football fan and enjoyed spending his winters in Ft. Myers, Florida.
Pat is survived by his loving wife, Diane (Grantz) Armstrong, whom he married on October 18, 2000; step-daughter Jo Ellen Albanese (Anthony) of Columbus; step-son L. Scott Saluga (Lisa) of Warren; grandchildren Kaitlyn Hedderman (Lauren), Zachary Saluga (Kaitlyn), Colby Albanese, and Chase Albanese; great-grandchildren London and Hayden Saluga; former sister-in-law Cheryl Armstrong; nieces Michelle Fairhurst, Tricia Fairhurst, Lindsay Smith (Todd), Mary Kay Woodruff (Mark), Maureen Files (Steve); and numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, and one great-great-nephew.
Preceding him in death were his parents, William and Marcella (McGowan) Armstrong; siblings John, William, and Patricia (Armstrong)Thornton; and his previous wife, Patricia (Froble).
In accordance with his wishes, no services will be held. Vaschak/Kirila Funeral Home in Youngstown, Ohio, is assisting the family during this time. Pat's charismatic spirit and generous nature will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
