1945-2025
Robert Hoover, 80, of Strongsville, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 11, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones.
Robert was born on January 19, 1945, in Pomona, California, to Irene (née Birmingham ) and Cal Hoover. He grew up in Youngstown and graduated from Austintown Fitch High School and Youngstown State University. Robert served in the United States Army before beginning his career with JCPenney, where he met his future wife, Diane. He later worked as a State Farm Insurance Agent in Westlake, Ohio, for 40 years.
Robert was known for his humor, strong work ethic, and positive, easygoing nature. He loved sports, funny movies, and music, and was a fan of the Cleveland Browns and Ohio State Buckeyes. Robert also had a deep love for dogs. His beloved companions Buffy, Alex, Corky, Mooney, Elsie, Tyler, and Oliver are surely ready to greet him in heaven. He brought joy to everyone who knew him.
Robert is survived by his beloved wife, Diane; his sister, Lynn (Jimmy) Maizel; and his brother-in-law, Mitch (Patti) Selesnak. He is also survived by his nieces Kristen, Kathryn, and Suzanne, great-nephews and Ben, Noah, and James, and great-niece Josephine. He was preceded in death by his parents, Irene and Cal Hoover; his brother, Dick; his father-in-law, Emil; and his mother-in-law, Kathryn.
Family and friends are invited to attend Robert’s funeral on Friday, October 17, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 421 Covington Street, Youngstown, Ohio.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 16, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Vaschak-Kirilla Funeral Home, 3100 Canfield Road, Youngstown, Ohio.

Robert’s memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
