Robert E. Parmenter, 91, passed away peacefully at Mercy Hospital on Saturday, February 24, 2024. Bob was born on February 06, 1939 in Austin, Minnesota. He was the son of John and Hilda (Wachlin) Parmenter.
Bob came to this area in 1955 after serving in the United States Coast Guard. Bob was employed by Armbrecht before becoming a partner in Chuck & Bob’s. He was later employed by Avis before retiring from Tamarkin as a diesel mechanic.
On August 10, 1973, Bob married Donna Westermen. Bob and Donna enjoyed many years traveling throughout the United States. Bob was passionate about antique cars, especially Model T Fords. He was an excellent mechanic and was always willing to help countless other car owners in the area. Bob was a member and past President of the Youngstown Chapter Model T Ford Club International. He held the position of President of the local chapter a number of times throughout the years. He also belonged to the American Truck Historical Society and the Studebaker Drivers Club. Bob and Donna loved planning and touring with his antique cars and friends. Two years ago, Bob was honored with a plaque commemorating their participation on 46 Model T International Tours.
Bob attended Emmanuel Community Church and was a member of the Freemasons F. & A.M. Sulgrave Lodge #696 of Youngstown. He was a 32nd degree Mason, Valley of Youngstown. Bob was a member of Al Koran Ancient Accepted Order Nobles of Mystic Shrine. He was also a member of Youngstown Aut-Mori Grotto.
Besides his wife, Donna, he also leaves behind to cherish his memory his son, Robert A. Parmenter (Ellen) of California; and three daughters, Denise Shick (Mike) of Florida, Melissa Strephans and Marcia Pershing, both of Canfield. He also leaves a brother, John Parmenter, and two sisters, Sue Camerer and Vickie Underhill, all of Minnesota. Bob leaves three grandsons and three granddaughters and seven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Bob was proceeded in death by his parents, his stepmother, Esther Parmenter, and 10 brothers and sisters.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nursing staff at Mercy Health Boardman and Youngstown Hospitals for their compassionate care.
Friends may call on Monday, March 11 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Vaschak- Kirila Funeral Home. A Masonic service by the Sulgrave Lodge #696 will be held at 6:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home followed by internment at Green Haven Memorial Gardens. Representatives from the Ellsworth VFW Post 9571 will be present at the committal service for military honors. Friends may call one hour prior to the service.
