Margaret M Hamrock

Margaret Mary (Dratva) Hamrock, 82, died June 6, peacefully in her sleep after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by her family in her home. She was a member of St. Christine parish in Youngstown.
She was born Aug. 31, 1932, in Warren. She was a daughter of John and Anna (Kaplach) Dratva. Youngest of eight children, John, Paul, triplets who died in vitro, Mathew, Annabelle and Irene, all deceased.
Her parents owned a store in Warren where she learned business and hard work. Margaret graduated from Warren G. Harding High School and worked at Packard Electric and Youngstown State University. She attended YSU and received an Associate of Arts and Business in 1978. After raising her four children, she went back to YSU and received a Bachelor of Science with Gri real estate and sold real estate for Manchi Realty. She was also co-owner of Heatheridge Estates Inc. for 10 years. They developed lad in Howland, which previously was her families farm. It is now a housing development still today.
She is survived by her husband, Michael, of 60 years; her two sons, David (Dawn) Hamrock and Gerry (Carole) Hamrock; one daughter, Julie (Rob) Malkovits; six grandchildren, Christina, Luke, Joshua and Lauren Hamrock, Nikki and Robbie Malkovtis; one great-grandchild, Camille; sister-in-law Agatha (Frank) Fabery; and many nieces and nephews.
A son, Michael is deceased.
She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed baking. She loved being with family. She was a member of First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association (FCSLA), where she served as an auditor for many years. She enjoyed playing cards with her card club every second Tuesday of every month prior to her illness. She was also a member of Kent State Mothers Club, who raise money for scholarships for those attending Kent State University. She also loved shopping and going gambling when she could.
Calling hours for Margaret will be today, June 9, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Vaschak-Kirila Funeral Home Inc.
Services will be held Wednesday, June 10, at 9:30 a.m. at the Vaschak-Kirila Funeral Home, with a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Christine Church.
