September 21, 1922 ~ April 10, 2016 (age 93) 93 Years Old

Mary “Gust” (Fliotsos) Masters of Youngstown, passed away on Sunday, April 10, 2016, at the age of 93.
Family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 14, 2016, at the Vaschak-Kirila Funeral Home, Inc., 3100 Canfield Road, Youngstown, with a Trisagion service at 5 p.m. Viewing hours will also be held Thursday from 10:30 to 11 a.m. prior to the funeral service, which begins at 11 a.m., at St. John Greek Orthodox Church, 4955 Glenwood Ave., Boardman.
Mary will be laid to rest in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Boardman.
Mary was born Sept. 21, 1922, to Gust and Despina (Mittacos) Fliotsos and was preceded in death by her husband, Nicholas B. (Mastorides) Masters.
She was a lifelong member of St. John Orthodox Church, where she was part of the Philoptochos Society, a women’s philanthropic group of the Greek Orthodox Church, and the senior citizens’ club. In addition, she was a member of the Butler Institute of American Art and the Angels of Easter Seals.
As a young woman, Mary was a member of the Daughters of Penelope, a women’s organization that promotes Hellenism, education, philanthropy, civic responsibility, and family and individual excellence. She took great pride in her work in the adjustment department at McKelvey’s department store, as well as in her position at the office at Anderson Delivery.
In the early years of her marriage, she and a group of friends founded the Adelphienes, a social group that, over the years, brought the women, their husbands, and families together in a celebration of life that included luncheon teas, holiday festivities, and picnics. A consummate mother and homemaker, Mary was passionate about creating an environment that reflected her love for family, church, and various forms of art. Her house was filled with family photos and memorabilia, exquisitely carved religious icons, a collection of glass paperweights, and paintings. Mary contributed numerous recipes to the Angels of Easter Seals cookbooks and relished the time she donated to this worthy charity.
Her absence will be felt of the hearts of many, including her daughter, Elayne Masters of Pittsburgh; her son, Atty. William N. Masters of Cleveland, and friend, Kelly Kerber; two grandchildren, Gregory and Stephanie Eddins; and her caregiver, friend, and “adopted” daughter, Sarah Mitchell.
Contributions may be made to St. John Greek Orthodox Church.
