Otilia Badila

Otilia (Tillie) Badila, 93, passed away on Thursday, January 7, 2016 at the Assumption Village in North Lima. Mrs. Badila was born February 4, 1922 in Youngstown, one of five daughters of Raveca and John Coser. Her sisters, Sylvia Perline, Connie Cramer, Marie Prato, and Vicki Matthews have passed away.
A talented beautician, she operated her successful business in Youngstown’s Brownlee Woods for nearly fifty years in conjunction with her late husband John, who was a barber.
Tillie was lover of music and travel. She was a dedicated pianist , and enjoyed playing even to her very last days. A member of the Brownlee Woods Octet and a member of the Youngstown Symphony Chorus, she performed in a choir of 100 voices at Rockefeller Center. She and her husband traveled to major cities in the US and Canada, enjoyed trips to Hawaii, and toured parts of Europe, particularly Romania and Belgium.
Mrs. Badila was a life-long member of Holy Trinity Romanian Orthodox Church in Youngstown where she was choir director for over 50 years. Active in parish life she served in various offices including president of the parish council, the “Carman Sylva” Ladies Auxiliary, locally and nationally, The Youngstown Orthodox Women’s Society, and the Unierea si Plugarul Society’s Ladies Organization.
Her Husband John, whom she married in 1941, passed away in 2002. Beside her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Cynthia, in 2014. She is survived by her two sons, John, Jr., of Gt. Falls, VA, with whose family she resided for eight years, and Robert, of Brussels, Belgium, where she made her home for three years, and six grand children: John Carl Badila, of Salt Lake City, UT, Jennifer Brown, of Charleston, S.C., Matthew Badila, of Baltimore, MD, Beka Badila in Los Angeles CA,, and Alexandra and Rachel Badila who live in Belgium.
Friends will be received at Holy Trinity Romanian Orthodox church, 926 Wick Ave. in Youngstown on Friday, January 15th from 10:30 to 11:00am. Services will follow at 11:00am. Interment will follow at Belmont Cemetery.
